I appreciate your comments and further help. Audio was OK when playing this way in Vista Media Center. In the past, I mean Vista, the only limitation is video and that makes sense. It almost seems to me that Media Center doesn't allow playing music from a remote desktop session.

You can test the audio device in Control Panel and it seems to work fine. Even you click 'stop' in the Media Center, the speaker MUTE is still on.
